New butterflies emerging every day now!

 

Hi, Yesterday was a great day to be out butterfling with the mild sunny afternoon near seventy under a sunny sky. I went to our local county park across the road from me. I have to drive to be able to access the entrance and did see quite a few sulphurs on the way there. I took the upper end of the park today near US route 1 as I find more duskywings at this location. This location has more exposed rocky serpentine stone with Pitch Pine, greenbriars and some grasses and a higher elevation in general. Upon starting I noted far fewer Spring Azures than weeks before and today only female Falcate Orangetip butterflies. On our way up the path closest to the route one area I encountered another (the first) butterfly enthusiast I ever encountered in the park, named Ray from near Millersville, PA. He was visiting his daughter in nearby Conowingo, Maryland and stops here as it is nearby. Ray told me he sees Cobweb Skippers here regularly and that they should be out now. After a mile or so and almost back to the parking lot Ray spots a Cobweb Skipper. So we venture up the hill in a different direction, than our downhill return, to find a couple Cobweb Skippers and a few Dusted Skippers in a grassy area. Today seemed a tad early for the Dusted Skippers but there were a few of them. We also had many Pearl Crescents, a few Ladies (unidentified probably American) at a distance, Eastern-tailed Blue, many Juvenal's Duskywings, a few Common Sootywings, Black Swallowtails and quite a few Spicebush Swallowtails.  A really nice spring day and thanks again Ray.
