Plain but colorful on a dull December day like today.

Hello again, today is a heavily clouded December day with leaden skies and a stiff NW wind. The temps at dawn are in the lower twenties and are not forecasted to rise above freezing with some sun later in the day. On a dull cold day like today one even looks at a Dun Skipper and Purple Loostrife as colorful. Here is a picture of the aforementioned pair. Taken last summer, of course. Have a great day! Denis

Snow flurries= no butterflies but some pix

Hi, Today we are having a blustery day with heavy clouds and some snow flurries. I would not expect to see live butterflies but in place of a real one I hope this picture my just suffice. Have a Great Day, Denis

Cold and windy today, something to cheer us up.

Hi, today it is cold, cloudy and very windy outside making it feel a lot colder than reality. It is due to stay below freezing for the next week with these unfavorable conditions. The best part is no snow! Here is a shot from the summer of an intermediate color morph of a female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. It is between the normal yellow and black colorations we get on the females only. This year I saw 3 individuals like the one pictured below. Denis

Winter is here for good now.

Hi, Today I had to go to extreme northern Delaware for a family function. Upon getting to the relative's house I saw blooming flowers across the narrow street on the edge of a wooded lot. These were Smooth Heath Asters still in bloom. Most folks never see/notice these and most of the aster family unless there is a large amount of blooms that shout out loud. This is our latest flower but no butterflies today as it barely rose above freezing with breezy conditions. Below is a poor picture as I shot it from about fifty feet away. Denis

WARM SUMMER LIKE RAINS AND WIND !

Hello, we are experiencing a summer like overnight/morning with strong winds and heavy rains into mid-morning at 62°. The winds are out of the south bringing us warm moist Gulf of Mexico moisture laden air and the wrap around is picking up Atlantic Ocean moisture to add to the mix. Later the temperature is to drop quickly and plummet to freezing by dawn. Tomorrow it will only go in the upper thirties and will be winter like, with strong NW winds. Winter is here! Actually today is the start of ‘meteorological winter’, rather than ‘calendar winter’. I think ’meteorological winter’ is more reality. My only hope of a butterfly is like the one pictured below from last December. Denis
