One Of Our Earlier Butterflies To Emerge-The Eastern Tailed Blue

Hi again, It has been warming up around here in the last couple of days from near zero at dawn to the teens and twenties for our coldest period. Now we are up to the thirties, or not exactly butterfly weather, although not too far off in the end of next month. In a couple of days it will be the 'Infamous Groundhog Day', with all of the press going gaa-gaa on Chuckie and his predictions. Predictions, yes as there are quite a few predictor chucks around lately. The butterfly that is today's choice is our small and beautiful Eastern Tailed Blue, that is basically nickle sized if laying on the coin. I usually find these early ones near streams with sandy or muddy areas nearby. Here is a handful of pix for your to view. Have a great day, Denis

Butterflies That Live The Longest Time.

Hi Again, Today I am posting butterflies that live the longest lives, or actually overwinter as fully grown adults. There are only 3 Butterflies that overwinter as fully grown adults and flew last fall in our area. The species are: Mourning Cloak, Eastern Comma and Question Mark butterflies. Some other species do hatch and overwinter as a pupa of sorts, although most overwinter as only eggs. I will post some showing the more cold weather shots as well as more summary backgrounds. When you look at the pictures you can tell the difference  in seasons easily. Have a great day, Denis

A Little Warmth This Winter Day In Single Digit Numbers

Hi again, It seems that I have lost a half year's blog or butterfly posts. So now I must attempt to post the ones that I think are missing and then some. Anyway here I will post a few different butterfly pix, more reminiscent of what we tend to like a whole lot more than today at 7°. Most pix today will show blooming flowers as the background, certainly a summery mental image more than snow, like today is outside. Each picture has the name of the individual butterfly somewhere less obvious now than in the past. Enjoy, Denis
